Australasian Meat Industry Employee Union (AMIEU) Newcastle & Northern is a Federal Meat Industry Union providing representation of meat and dairy workers from the Central Coast to the Queensland border. The organisation fights for the rights of workers in the meat industry and helps ensure a safe and progressive workplace for all workers.
The organisation has grown since its inception in 1919, and in the past century has helped countless workers navigate the industry.
A stagnated IT system made for inefficient work and a break-fix framework.
Newcastle Meat Workers Association had an IT system that had stagnated and become outdated over years of not being maintained or updated. Their IT operated on a break-fix basis and was causing inefficiencies within the organisation.
The previous IT provider focused more on ad hoc requirements as they raised them, rather than putting together a cohesive software installation plan to prevent problems now and into the future. To ensure the team at Newcastle Meat Workers Union had the IT resources to continue helping people in the industry, they needed a comprehensive IT plan and an experienced team to execute it.
Entourage Technology laid foundations for a secure, efficient and collaborative IT system.
An initial consultation with the team at Newcastle Meat Workers Union helped understand the challenges faced and plan ways to combat these through better IT systems.
One of the immediate requirements was to retire the onsite active directory domain from old server and replace with a new server to host their members platform, Kudos. Led by Doohan in partnership with Rhys from our friends at Hunter TBTC, the team worked with software developers to ensure a smooth transition of services. The new server will have backups for data redundancy and disaster recovery.
Newcastle Meat Workers Union was moving premises, so the team at Entourage installed new internet connections, cabinets and servers, as well as new workstations to ensure efficiency and comfort.
Finally, Entourage migrated all mail services from the onsite server to Microsoft 365 so they are able to enjoy benefits such as Teams communication, SharePoint and OneDrive. Microsoft365 has high security and uptime for receiving mail.
