Located on the stunning Coffs Coast, Pacific Bay Resort stands as a renowned and idyllic retreat. Spread over 100 acres, the resort has been an integral part of the Coffs community for over 25 years, hosting Australian and international legends such as The Wallabies, INXS, and Midnight Oil, to name a few. With its rich history and stellar reputation, Pacific Bay Resort sought a dependable technology partner to improve the current WiFi, ensuring seamless operations and visitor satisfaction.
The existing WiFi faced challenges due to its age and outdated cabling, resulting in a poor and unreliable guest internet experience with speeds ranging from 2-5MBits/sec. The primary challenge was to enhance the WiFi experience for guests throughout their 100+ rooms, overcoming the limitations posed by the ageing infrastructure and cabling.
Our approach to revolutionising pacific bay resort's connectivity
Entourage Technology developed a comprehensive solution to address the challenges presented by Pacific Bay Resort. The proposed upgrade involved replacing the existing ADSL DSLAMs with modern VDSL DSLAMs, adhering to the latest standards. Importantly, this design allowed the critical hardware to remain in the communications room, while new modems could be installed inside a fixed enclosure in the guest rooms.
As well as the DSLAM upgrade, Entourage installed a new 1Gbit fibre service from Telstra, a high-speed connection serving as a backbone for the improved WiFi infrastructure. Additionally, a managed Cisco Meraki Security Firewall was implemented to provide effective management and reporting capabilities for the new solution.
Exceeding the expectations of tech-savvy guests
The guest WiFi experience at Pacific Bay Resort saw a significant improvement, with average throughput per room reaching 70-80MBits/sec during peak times. The reliability and speed of the network now meets and exceeds the expectations of modern, tech-savvy guests.
The collaboration with Pacific Bay Resort allowed for the implementation of user-friendly features, such as QR code-based WiFi access, simplifying the welcome process for guests. Additionally, guests can now enjoy the convenience of casting content from their devices to smart TVs in their rooms.
